It is our responsibility...

It is the responsibility of every citizen of New York to stand in unity with the brave family members, survivors and first responders of 9/11 who continue to demand answers.

And it is the responsibility of every 9/11 Truth activist to fight to ensure that NYC CAN does not betray that trust.

An Open Letter to Jules of TruthMove.org

Much political hay has been made of the fact that I have chosen to publicly endorse NYC CAN, after many of my public statements critical of the initiative.  I have chosen not to engage in a protracted debate on this - instead opting to respond here:

Seeing this effort move forward the way it has, I'm really frustrated feeling like the movement is NOT wiser and stronger. But I certainly hope so.

I also hope that John and Jon, two people who have earned my respect for their concern and efforts over the years are able to work from the inside to keep this thing in bounds. But that's a tall order, and they are only two people.

There really aren't all that many who know where those boundary lines fall. John and Jon won't have a lot of support. I will very likely be one of those who's supporting their critical engagement from the outside. And it's really frustrating that Jon seems to think I have some kind of ego based reason for my concern.

THERE ARE MAJOR PROBLEMS AND REASON TO BELIEVE THEY WILL BE DIFFICULT TO ADDRESS

And I really believe that both John and Jon will end up being disappointed to find that their efforts are in vain. I COULD BE WRONG. Of course. However, all my griping is based on the possibility that I'm not. Of course. - Jules (TruthMove.org)

Possibly - we will be disappointed.  There are no sure-things in the world of 9/11 Truth activism.  In fact, we all live with the knowledge that the deck is stacked decisively against us.

But - having said that - let me try to explain why I have chosen to endorse NYC CAN.

NYC CAN has gained the support and participation of some of this movement’s most credible activists.  Kyle Hence is now closely involved with this initiative.  There are few in this movement whose judgment I respect more than Kyle Hence.

Coleen Rowley – an Ex-FBI agent named one of Time Magazine’s ‘People of the Year” has endorsed the initiative.

Lorie Van Auken is named as a commissioner.  Over 100 victim’s families, survivors and first responders have signed on.

I’m sorry – but I think the commitment of these people to publicly go on the record and call for an investigation of 9/11 is something we all have a RESPONSIBILITY to support now.

Things have changed Julian.  This thing has gotten MUCH bigger than Les Jamieson and Edgar Mitchell.

These legitimate and sincere people are making a commitment Julian, and I think you need to think carefully about the cavalier way in which you dismiss their influence, their determination, their good judgment, good will and common sense in dealing with any potential problems which may arise.

This initiative does not BELONG to Les Jamieson or any of the other activists you have expressed concern about.  The initiative belongs to the people of New York and the 70,000 people who signed the petition, and the victim’s families and survivors and first responders who are bravely putting their good names on the line to endorse it.  And, I cannot imagine the misplaced logic that would dictate that a self-ascribed 9/11 Truth activist would refuse to support their commitment to stand together and lay claim to what is rightfully theirs.

This is their initiative  Julian – and it is the responsibility of every sincere 9/11 Truth activist to stand with them and fight to make sure their interests are protected.

What do you suggest we do Julian?  Throw away the 70,000 petitions for a 9/11 investigation?  Block the initiative from making onto the ballot?  Feed the media ammunition to shoot down the efforts of Lorie Van Auken and all the other families – by continually highlighting the Edgar Mitchell UFO issue?

At what point do you become an enabler?  At what point are you doing more damage to the reputation of these good people than Edgar Mitchell himself?

These are things you need to consider.

My proposal:  Join us – and put your considerable intellect to use to ensure that the initiative is protected from our enemies.

The September Eleventh Advocates' Letters

Why we cannot allow NYC CAN to fail

From activist Jon Gold:

Over the years, 9/11 Family Members Kristen Breitweiser, Lorie Van Auken, Mindy Kleinberg, Patty Casazza, and Monica Gabrielle, or the September Eleventh Advocates, have written open letters about different issues concerning the 9/11 attacks. I have compiled every letter that I have (not every letter is written by all of them), and put them into one file for you to download. I figured that along with the
report written by Lorie Van Auken, and Mindy Kleinberg regarding how well the 9/11 Commission answered the 9/11 Family Steering Committee's questions, as well as the new report on the nano-thermite, this could be printed, and handed out to people. Please spread this around, and thank you.

Potential Problems & Legitimate Questions

Ted Walters – NYC CAN Executive Director

No biography / history available.

Seasoned 9/11 Truth activists know the importance of carefully vetting activists who seek to organize around the issue of 9/11.

For example:  In 2007  various credible and mainstream 9/11 Truth organizations gave their full backing to an Arizona “9/11 Accountability Conference” organized by a little-known  activist by the name of Eric D. Williams (Conference Director).  Literally days before the event was to take place Mr. Williams announced the publication of The Puzzle of Auschwitz,  a holocaust denial book:

First, and foremost, it is all well known fact that the numbers of the 6 million Jews said have been killed in Concentration Camps have come down to around 1 million.  - Eric D. Williams

These surprise revelations by Mr. Williams were immediately seized upon by the mainstream media, and used to discredit the issue of 9/11 Truth.

For this reason I believe it is a legitimate issue that activists are questioning why NYC CAN, representing the interests of over 70,000 New Yorkers, with a budget proposal of $10 million, rests in the hands of an Executive Director whom we know so little about.

The Commissioners

To date the most divisive issue surrounding the NYC CAN initiative has been the inclusion of Dr. Edgar Mitchell (Apollo 14 astronaut) as one of the 8 commissioners listed in the NYC Initiative Petition to Amend NYC Charter.

Although multiple high-profile activists have both publicly and privately made appeals to the organizers of this initiative to make public a statement of intention to remove Dr. Edgar Mitchell from the list, to date these appeals appear to have fallen upon deaf ears, sparking much speculation in the 9/11 Truth community about the validity and intentions of the organizers.

It is my opinion that this reluctance to address the Mitchell issue is indeed a cause for concern.  With the initiative’s credibility already handicapped by much of the bad press surrounding 9/11 Truth, it is a reasonable and legitimate request that the issue be dealt with in a swift and decisive manner – BEFORE it is seized upon by the media.

From “An Open Letter to Dr. William F. Pepper” – Jan 24, 2008

As you well know, from your well-documented experiences in the past, political movements can be derailed and discredited by the mainstream media as a result of intentional and/or unintentional disruptions and disinformation. As you also know, this has been a very serious problem within the 9/11 Truth movement. Many of our best efforts have been derailed by disruption and disinformation designed to discredit us.

The responsibility of steering a citizen’s commission to investigate 9/11 is a very serious one. In seeking to guide this ballot initiative, you take into your hands the concerns of millions of Americans, stricken first responders and victim’s families. In seeking to guide this ballot initiative you may find yourself confronted with allegations of bias as you attempt to expose criminality of the most serious and dire nature.

I respectfully point out that this initiative can have no credibility without the outward appearance of public oversight, broad consensus and transparency.

I respectfully propose that you act now to ensure this initiative projects the integrity and professional accountability that an issue such as this demands and requires.

Is it time to endorse NYC CAN?

John Albanese

New York City

70,000 signatures. A groundswell of endorsements from some of the most prestigious and well-respected names in and out of the 9/11 Truth movement, anti-war movement, government and military officials, and, most importantly, the victim's families.

Whether one agrees or disagrees with the underlying language, history and personalities of those involved, it cannot be disputed that NYC CAN represents perhaps the most unified and historic groundswell of public support for a 9/11 investigation in the history of the 9/11 Truth movement. We cannot turn our backs on the self-evident nature of this historic collaboration.

For this reason I can no longer withhold my endorsement.

I am well aware of the problems inherent in this initiative. As one of the last few holdouts in the 9/11 Truth community, I too was deeply concerned with various aspects of this initiative. But, in many respects the widespread attention, and unifying character of the many endorsements, and the community outreach associated with the initiative, makes this not just a referendum on the events of 9/11, but also a virtual referendum on the nature of the 9/11 Truth movement itself.

With so much widespread support and exposure NYC CAN will once and for all create a high-profile platform for an open and honest dialogue -- not just about the events of 9/11 -- but about OURSELVES - and our ability to maintain our dignity and credibility as a movement in the face of what will invariably be organized efforts to disrupt our efforts -- from without and within.

At this we cannot fail. We cannot ignore the call of 70,000 New Yorkers, and countless others worldwide, who have taken a stand for creating this unique platform for truth.

It is for this reason that I would like to announce my full endorsement for the NYC CAN, and my intentions to work towards publicly supporting and promoting this initiative.

But, to those among us who may seek to discredit or diminish our efforts, please know that the public endorsements of so many people has created a unique mandate for credibility. This is in fact a PEOPLE'S initiative.

I, for one, welcome this historic moment in the 9/11 Truth Movement, because the unique unity this initiative has created now shines a very powerful spotlight -- not just on the events of 9/11 -- but on the credibility and nature of our own efforts.

It is my hope that we, as a community, can prevail. It is my hope that this spotlight will once and for all exorcise out the full truth behind, not just 9/11, but about who we are as a community and what we stand for, and who and what we allow to represent our cause. It goes without saying that, should this initiative pass, a considerable amount of public HOPE and SCRUTINY will become focused on those entrusted with the sacred task of breathing life into the investigation. Let us hope they do not fail us.

We have only one shot at gaining credibility in the public's eye -- and NYC CAN affords us a very powerful public forum for determining for ourselves, once and for all, if we can discern fact from fiction -- and friend from foe.

This, I can fully endorse.
